How to Avoid College Scholarship Burnout

College scholarship burnout really is a thing! Here are 3 tips to help students get refocused and excited about the college scholarship process.

[2023 Edition]

How to avoid college scholarship burn out

Spring has just about sprung and students everywhere are thinking about warmer weather, spring break, and upcoming proms!

While all these activities are an important part of high school, parents know that financing their student’s college education is vital and often wonder how to help their students focus on applying for scholarships at this time of year.

Scholarship searching and applying may have started out strong at the beginning of the school year, but by now college scholarship burn-out may be starting to creep in.

Here are 3 tips to help students get refocused and excited about the college scholarship process:

  • Do the Math – If a scholarship award is worth $1000 and a student spends two hours preparing the application, they are making $500 an hour if they win. You can read more about using this strategy here
  • Partner Up – Divide the work of finding and applying for college scholarships between parent (or parents) and student. Mom finds the scholarships, the student writes the essays. Dad reminds the student of upcoming deadlines, the student asks teachers for letters of recommendation.
  • Ask Everyone – Enlist the help of friends, family members, co-workers, and anyone else you can think of to help your students find more scholarships to apply for.  Get the word out! You can find more on this tip here.

Spring is when the majority of college scholarship applications are due.

Don’t let your students miss important deadlines just because they have a touch of spring fever or even senioritis!

To find out how I partnered with my own son and helped him win enough scholarships to go to college for free, get your copy of the How to Win College Scholarships ebook today and see what other parents are saying about it:

“My daughter applied & didn’t win MANY scholarships before we decided to invest more time in HOW to win scholarships. Then we saw success and local and one National award. My oldest 2 both got $ back last semester due to scholarships. My daughter has all 4 years covered full ride and my son is about $1500 away from having his sophomore year full ride as well. It is possible but you need to apply SMART.”  J.K., Scholarship Help & College Talk for Parents Facebook group member, Idaho
