Use this tip to write a stronger college scholarship essay:
College scholarship judges are human and come from all walks of life. They are teachers, volunteers, corporate professionals, business owners, and board members.
Keeping this diversity in mind, students should avoid the following subjects when writing their scholarship essays:
- Politics
- Religion
- Sex
- Abortion
Why? Opinions vary greatly in all of these subject areas and the last thing a student wants to do is to offend a scholarship judge in ANY way.
The whole point of scholarship essay writing is to give students a chance to become more than a name to the judges. The judges are looking for students worthy of the scholarship money they are offering and after reading a student’s essay should feel good about a student and remember their words in a positive way.
The scholarship essay should be a window into the student’s world that clearly shows character, sincerity, and promise.
