College Scholarship Tip: Do Not Rely on High ACT/SAT Scores

This is a college scholarship tip that you don’t want to miss! Having a high SAT/ACT score is wonderful, but will those scores bring in college scholarship money for students?

College Scholarship Tip - Don't Rely on High ACT/SAT Scores #SAT #ACT #ScholarshipMom

I know a mom with a son who scored very high on the ACT. She actually received a call from a counselor at his high school letting her know of his fantastic score. (I know you are curious, so I’ll share, he scored a 34)

This being the family’s first student to take the test and apply to college, the mom asked what this meant for the student in regards to scholarships.

She was told, “Colleges will call him with offers”.

How many calls do you think he received?

NONE, zero, zip, nada.

True story!

One of the biggest myths about college scholarships is that students with high ACT and/or SAT scores will automatically win them and basically receive a full ride to college.

While it is true that some colleges and universities award scholarship money to students with high test scores, most do not, and if they do, the awards are usually for a fraction of the total cost the student needs to attend the school.

High-scoring students need to volunteer in their communities, earn high grades, and apply for each and every scholarship that they possibly can! Sitting back and waiting for scholarship “offers” from colleges is pretty much wasting high test scores.

Students won’t win if they don’t apply, no matter how high they score on the ACT or SAT. THIS is the scholarship truth!
