Winning Tips: The Gen and Kelly Tanabe College Scholarship is a simple, straightforward scholarship with no extra materials required. Students write an essay on one of three topics: Explaining why they deserve to win the scholarship, describing their academic or career goals, or any topic chosen by the student, including an essay that was used for another scholarship application or as a class assignment. (How awesome is THAT?)

The essay needs to be 250 words or less.
This means that students need to pack as much meaningful information as possible into the essay without going over 250 words and without wasting valuable space.
Beginning the essay with a hook is especially important for this scholarship and a great way to quickly grab the judges’ attention. Learn about this method here.
