Helicopter 2050 Challenge College Scholarship
The “Sikorsky Helicopter 2050 Challenge” is a wonderful opportunity for younger students to get involved in the college scholarship process at an early age. Open to students aged 9-16; this is a $1000 scholarship opportunity where students get to show off their creative juices by sharing their detailed plans for a “sustainable, environmentally friendly helicopter of the future”.
Here are the main scholarship details:
- $1000 scholarship award, plus a trip to the Sikorsky headquarters in Stratford, CT
- Open to U.S. legal residents aged 9-16
- Students design and share their ideas for an environmentally friendly helicopter of the year 2050
- No essay requirement
- No minimum G.P.A. requirement
- No income level requirement
- Entries may be sent electronically or physically mailed
- Deadline to apply: October 15
Winning Tips: Entries for the Helicopter 2050 Challenge Scholarship are judged on uniqueness of concept (50%), description of helicopter (25%) and level of sustainability/environmental friendliness (25%). There is an excellent idea and tip page that should be carefully read and all instructions followed, especially the suggestion to visit the Sikorsky Timeline and Image Gallery. Becoming familiar with the mission of the Sikorsky Corporation is also a way into the judges hearts. Former winners and their helicopter creations can be found and reviewed, to get an idea of the kind of applicant the judges have chosen to win previous helicopter challenges. Since this is a scholarship that is only open to minors, be sure to download and return the parental permission form, or the application will not be considered.
