Horatio Alger College Scholarships
Have you heard about the Horatio Alger College Scholarships?
[2022 Edition]
Horatio Alger, Jr. was a 19th-century author who wrote many novels about young people and their “rags to riches” stories that resulted from hard work, honesty, and courage. The Horatio Alger Association awards thousands of dollars in college scholarship money to deserving students each year with the Horatio Alger College Scholarships.
Here are the qualifications for the Horatio Alger College Scholarships:
1. Students must be current high school juniors who are planning on entering a U.S. college in the fall after graduation
2. Parents income must be $55,000 or less per year
3. Students must show community and school involvement

4. Students need to share how they have overcome obstacles and adversity in their lives
5. Minimum G.P.A of 2.0
6. This scholarship is open to U.S. citizens only
Deadline: March 15
Winning Tips: Take a close look at the Horatio Alger Association’s mission statement, “To provide scholarship assistance to deserving young people who have demonstrated integrity, determination in overcoming adversity, academic potential and the personal aspiration to make a unique contribution to society.”
This is the type of student that they are looking for in their winners. There are several different essays included in the scholarship requirements, so make sure each point of the mission statement is included in the essays. (Read this article first) Learn as much as you can about who Horatio Alger Jr. was and who he wrote about and show how you have used these principles in your own life to overcome personal obstacles.
There are 25 awards for $25,000 each for the Horatio Alger College Scholarships.
