Helping ease the burden of student debt, one college scholarship at a time. ~Monica Matthews~

Here is a photojournalism college scholarship opportunity for talented photo taking students.

As technology advances, students are becoming more and more interested and talented in photography and photojournalism.

The James Alan Cox Foundation helps support students in their photography endeavors by providing several photojournalism college scholarships and monetary awards for photography equipment. There are three different kinds of awards available:

  • Five (5) Digital Cameras will be awarded to five (5) high school students. (High school applicants should only submit still photographs. The video awards are for college and graduate students only.)
  • Five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to five (5) college or technical school students, payable to their school. Four awards will be for video work while one will be for still photography.
  • One (1) $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) graduate student, payable to their school, for video work.

There are several forms required as part of the application process and all must be submitted online.

The deadline for the James Alan Fox Photojournalism College Scholarship is November 15. If this deadline has passed, add this award to your list and check back in mid-July when it typically reopens.

Winning Tips:  There is a link on the site showcasing previous winners. Click the name of each past winner to get a feel for what kind of students the foundation is looking for in their scholarship recipients. Students should also view winning photographs and videos.

Keep in mind that winners were chosen with these criteria:  Portfolio of work, financial need, essay, letters of reference and school transcript. There are several specific details about pixel requirements, number of photos submitted, video instructions, file size, and editing criteria. Follow these instructions to the letter and make sure all parts of the application are complete before online submission.
