For those students hoping to enter the medical field, I have found the Nurse Journal College Scholarship sponsored by NurseJournal.org. This scholarship is a merit-based (not based on income) yearly $3,000 award and does not have a long, complicated application process. Here are the details:

  • Both online and campus-based students may apply
  • Students do not have to be U.S. citizens
  • Students need to be enrolled in a regionally qualified medical program
  • Eligible global health programs include nursing, public health, and medicine
  • $3000 award
  • Minimum 3.2 G.P.A. required
  • Merit-based (no income requirement)
  • 800-1000 word essay
  • Due July 15 each year

Winning Tips:  This merit-based scholarship outlines very clearly how applicants are judged, with a 50% weighted mark for the essay alone. The essay question must be fully answered and formatted properly. In answering the essay question, students need to remember that this is a medical scholarship, so keep in mind that the judges will most likely be in the medical field and are looking for a student who will make a positive impact and can support their claims with valid details.

Also considered are extra-curricular activities, which should focus and expand on experience in the medical field. The scholarship application is very simple and straightforward and this is the first ever scholarship of this kind offered by NurseJournal.org.
