Prayer Soup Scholarship for College
The Prayer Soup Scholarship encourages students to share about their prayer lives and spiritual journeys.
Here is a scholarship that allows students to share how these challenging times have impacted them and how prayer is playing a part in getting them through it.
“We want to know how the events of this current year, with the eruption of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as unprecedented racial, economic, political and social upheaval, have affected you as a high school student. And we want to know if and how your personal prayer experience impacted these events.”
Here are all the details for the Prayer Soup Scholarship:
- NO Financial need requirement
- NO Letter of recommendation or school transcripts required
- Open to high school seniors
- 600-1200 word essay
- Online-only scholarship
- Awards: (3) $2500 and (2) $1000
- Deadline: January 31
Essay Theme: CHANGE
NOTE: Prayer Soup actually offers two different scholarships, the prompt below is for their main scholarship. Information for the second award, the Denise Mc Dorman Memorial Scholarship Program, can be found on the Prayer Soup website.
“Under normal circumstances, high school is characterized by significant growth experiences, and this year has been anything but normal!
We want to know how the events of this current year, with the eruption of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as unprecedented racial, economic, political and social upheaval, have affected you as a high school student. And we want to know if and how your personal prayer experience impacted these events.
In a time of large-scale disruption, what differences do you notice in your own life, the life of your family and the life of your peers?
Has your view of the world changed?
Your view of yourself?
Has your prayer experience itself changed – strengthened, weakened, or expanded, as a result of the changes you’ve confronted?”
WINNING TIPS: Notice that there are several questions in the prompt, so students need to use a check-off sheet while writing to make sure each is fully answered. They need to share personal details with relevant meaning, as I explain in this post.
There are very specific submission guidelines, so be sure to read the requirements very carefully on the sponsor’s website.
Before applying for any scholarship, students need to learn how to impress the judges and apply SMART.
