Essay prompt:
“Preparing for college can be stressful for any number of reasons. Tell us the ONE thing you are, or were, most concerned about regarding preparing for college, and what you’ve done, or are doing, to overcome the challenge.”
Winning Tips: Since this is an online essay-only scholarship, students need to share compelling details in their writing and absolutely begin with a hook to draw the reader in from the very first sentence. Learn how to begin a scholarship essay with a hook here.
Writing in the form of a story with relevant personal details is also important, as the judges will be looking for what the student has done to overcome their challenge. All essays should focus on ONE challenge, as outlined in the judging criteria.
Students need to keep this in mind when writing, “Preparing for college can encompass so many things. There’s academic preparation, financial preparation, perhaps preparing to live away from home, or parting for the first time with a life-long best friend.”
