Stop “clicking to nowhere” when looking for scholarships!
To narrow down an online scholarship search, take advantage of the free search tools from Google.
How is this done?
(Use your pc and not your phone for easier navigation.)
- In your browser, type in the name of a scholarship and hit “enter.”
- Next, click on “tools,” then “anytime,” and finally, “past year.”
This brings up a list of websites with the most current information about that specific scholarship.
- Ignore the first few websites with “Ad,” “Promoted,” or “Sponsored” before the link. (These are usually scholarship contests and not true awards.)
- Look for the website that has the name of the scholarship in it or the name of the business offering the award
- Skip the results that are from scholarship databases or matching websites (like Fastweb, as shown below)
- Click on the websites that will take you directly to the scholarship guidelines and/or applications
By doing this, students and parents can avoid finding old scholarship details with outdated deadlines and changed requirements, as well as spammy or questionable websites.
As a result, relevant and current scholarship details will be found quicker, which frees up more time to fill out applications and write essays.

Remember this though: Students need to apply SMART to impress the judges and win more scholarships. It’s not IF they apply, but HOW they apply that makes the most difference.
