Social Media and College Scholarships
Social media and college scholarships go hand-in-hand. Students who use social media wisely are the SMART ones!
This one is for you, scholarship searching students!
I have a very important question for all of you:
Are you proud of your Facebook page and/or Twitter tweets?
ALL of them? How about Instagram pics?
Yes, think hard. This includes pictures you have posted, pictures your friends have posted and tagged you in, and random tweet thoughts that you assumed no one important was reading.
Now think about this. College admissions officers and scholarship judges have admitted to searching a student’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc…) to find out more about them.
More importantly, to find out if there is anything NEGATIVE about them that would make or break an admission or scholarship decision.
It’s the truth and students NEED to know and understand the importance of creating and maintaining a clean, positive, and well, basically an online presence that they would invite their grandmother to read. (AKA “The Grandma Test“)
In my next blog post, I will share how students can use their love of social media to their ADVANTAGE. Stay tuned…(UPDATE: The post is right here)
