The Lint Center College Scholarships
The Lint Center College Scholarships are offered several times per year with different deadlines.
There is still time to apply for these currently open scholarships:
- Jim & Anna Hyonjoo Lint Scholarship ($1,500)
- Virginia and Frank Misselhorn Memorial Scholarship ($500)
The Lint Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “foster and further the educational development and opportunities for the next generation of America’s Counterintelligence and National Security Workers”. The scholarships they offer are aimed at students who are interested in the areas of International Affairs, Counterintelligence, and National Security.
Here are the details and what is needed for the currently open Lint Center Scholarships:
- Open to current college students or admitted college-bound students
- 600-800 national security essay
- One page personal essay
- 2 letters of recommendation
- Current resume
- Online only application
- Current transcripts, including cumulative GPA
- $1500 and $500 scholarship awards available
- Deadline: July 31
Winning Tips: There is an excellent section on the site here (link removed, see note below) where students can gather essay ideas and read specifics from a former scholarship winner. It is stressed that students should use their essay to let the judges know exactly who they are and “if you give it to a complete stranger and they still don’t know who you are – revisions are necessary. Be yourself and tell us where you want to go!”
Students are also encouraged to inquire to the committee if they feel they need to go over the required word limit as not to jeopardize the point they are trying to make. Be careful here though, as the judges will have numerous submissions to read, and submitting a too long one might backfire and not be appreciated.
Read and reread this advice taken directly from the ideas page, “Be bold, counter-intuitive, groundbreaking, and inventive. We seek submissions about what is next, what could be next, what should be anticipated next, and what should be done next. Identifying the problem is the easiest part of the equation – we seek the unfettered brilliance of a solution unrealized.”

Don’t miss this required detail —> All accompanying essays must have the statement: “I (request/do not request) this Essay to be published on the Lint Center for National Security Studies, Inc website (with/without) my name published.” Pick your choices.
