Let me tell you a story:
I recently had a very interesting conversation with a young teenager who loves Twitter.ย She found it funny that she had blocked her mom from reading and responding to her tweets.ย I gently reminded her of how college scholarship judges and admissions officers may read the postings of students (and profiles/usernames) when making the tough award and enrollment decisions.ย
The next thing I knew, she had blocked ME.ย Never being one to avoid a challenge and make a point, I quickly created a new email and used it to open a new Twitter account.ย
Within five minutes I could once again read her tweets.ย
She did not find this funny, but I hope itโs a lesson for all students and their parents who are in the middle of, or approaching, the college prep and scholarship process.ย

Maybe its the KIDS that should have alternative handles for messing around with their friends. Its a hard lesson to learn though. Great reminder.
Many kids just don’t realize that what they say on social media can be easily traced back to them, even with an obscure username. Thanks for reading, Anna!
An important post reminding all of us to adhere to a sensible level when posting on social media

Everything today is so different because of social media. There are so many benefits but there really are a ton of downfalls too. People really need to think twice before posting.
I think that students are starting to see the light in regards to what they are posting on social media, but reminders like this can never hurt. Thanks for reading my scholarship blog, Beth!
All of us should be much more careful with our social media. Good advice!

Absolutely! Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog, Sue!
This is such a minefield these days, for job applications too, & I’m not sure a lot of people are fully aware of the implications of what they post. Giggling slightly at your tactics – poor girl! ๐
You should have seen the look on her face when I told her I could once again see her tweets. FOILED! ๐
This information is gold. Millennials are known for oversharing, and rebooting if things don’t go their way. Once it’s in cyberspace, it’s there forever!
BINGO! Thanks for your comment and input, Terri!
